Mirror House is a novel in development.
Dollmaker BeeBee Luke has accumulated ten years of work during her residency at the legendary Mirror House. Every surface of the House, dated early 1800s, is plated or mosaiced with mirrors. Artists’ creativity exponentially increases & flourishes when invited to inhabit the space, but they are expected to leave it to a successor after their decade has come to an end. A homeless teenager when her residency started, BeeBee is now twenty-seven years old & refusing to leave the Mirror House. As a result, all the mirrors invert on the anniversary of her move-in.
Mirror House follows the short story “Topsy Turvy” in which ten-year-old BeeBee & her cousin Shae find a two-headed doll, New Year’s Eve 1999. Click below to listen to Essence read the story on WFHB’s Speaking of Stories.
